NMDI (Net Monthly Disposable Income) — Monthly income remaining after federal taxes, state taxes, Social Security, Medicare, SDI, health insurance, mandatory retirement contributions, and union dues are deducted from gross income.
K Factor — The income allocation factor from Family Code § 4055 that determines each parent's share of the child support obligation. Varies by combined net income level and number of children.
TN (Total Net Disposable Income) — The combined net monthly disposable income of both parents. Determines which K-factor bracket applies.
HN (High Earner Net Disposable Income) — The net monthly disposable income of the higher-earning parent. Used in the base support formula.
H% (Timeshare Percentage) — The percentage of time the higher-earning parent has physical custody of the children. Expressed as a decimal in the formula (e.g., 20% = 0.20).
LIA (Low-Income Adjustment) — A rebuttable presumption under Family Code § 4055(b)(7) that applies when the obligor's net disposable income falls below the full-time minimum wage threshold ($2,929/month for 2026). May result in a reduced support order.
SB 343 Add-Ons — Mandatory additional child-rearing expenses (childcare and uninsured medical) allocated between parents proportional to income, pursuant to Senate Bill 343.
Obligor — The parent ordered to pay child support.
